Harris Beach Lower Day-use Area is now ADA accessible.
The existing beach access and viewing/picnic area at the Lower Day-Use area of Harris Beach State Park did not meet current ADA accessibility standards. Very few recreational facilities along the Oregon Coast provide ADA access to the beach.
Heavily used by visitors traveling along the Oregon coast, local residents also find the beach access inviting. OPRD strives to continually develop and improve facilities that allow all our guests to thoroughly enjoy Oregon State Parks.
The project began by demolishing the existing beach access and picnic/viewing area. The site was then re-graded and construction began on the new concrete walkways, segmented retaining walls, railings and viewing area. The facility now provides ADA accessible access to the viewing area and beach from the parking lot.
